Can AI agents buy from a Wix store?
Wix stores publish no anonymous catalogue endpoint and render a great deal of the page in the browser. An agent that reads the delivered markup rather than running the site’s scripts can therefore see less of a Wix page than a person does, which makes what is in the structured data unusually important.
How Ottom reads a Wix catalogue
Source: product pages, read one at a time. Ottom reads the sitemap Wix generates and takes what it can from the structured data on each product page. Where a value exists only after the page’s scripts have run, the report says the value was not readable rather than assuming it is absent.
What works in your favour
- Wix emits product structured data on its standard store pages, so price and availability are usually stated.
- Sitemaps are generated for you and kept current without any work.
Where agents tend to stop
- Client-side rendering means an agent can receive a page that is largely empty until scripts run.
- Variant pickers are custom widgets and frequently expose no form control.
- Cart interactions are script-driven, so a reader without JavaScript cannot add an item at all.
Read about these first
- Choosing a variant needs JavaScript the agent cannot run
- Add to cart needs JavaScript the agent cannot run
- Price is not readable without running the page
How often this happens on Wix: not stated here. Ottom publishes frequency by retail category rather than by platform, so there is no per-platform figure to quote. The benchmark pages carry the category view, and publish one only once enough of its stores have been measured at every stage.
Questions
Agents can run JavaScript though, can they not?
Some can and some will not. Running a site’s scripts is slower and more expensive than reading what it sent, so an agent working through many stores tends to read first and only render when it has a reason to. A page that says nothing until it renders is a page that gets skipped.
What is the highest value change on Wix?
Making sure price, availability and variants appear in the page’s structured data, which Wix does by default and customisations sometimes break. That is one check rather than a project.
