Can AI agents buy from a Squarespace store?

Squarespace stores are readable page by page and publish no anonymous catalogue endpoint. The templates are consistent, which helps: markup that is generated rather than hand-built tends to be complete. The usual difficulty is that Squarespace sites lean on design, and a fact shown only as part of an image is a fact an agent does not have.

How Ottom reads a Squarespace catalogue

Source: product pages, read one at a time. Ottom reads the sitemap, which Squarespace generates for you, and takes price, availability and variants from the structured data on the product pages it lists.

Where agents tend to stop

Read about these first

How often this happens on Squarespace: not stated here. Ottom publishes frequency by retail category rather than by platform, so there is no per-platform figure to quote. The benchmark pages carry the category view, and publish one only once enough of its stores have been measured at every stage.

Questions

Our size guide is a nice graphic. Is that really a problem?

For a shopper, no. For an agent asked to find something that fits, the graphic is a rectangle. If the same information is not also in text somewhere on the page, the agent cannot answer the question it was sent to answer and moves on.

Do we need to change template?

Almost never. The common fixes are publishing the policy text as text alongside the graphic, and making sure a variant can be chosen without a mouse. Both are content and settings rather than a rebuild.
