AI agents and your storefront platform
What an agent can read depends a lot on what built your storefront, and what stops it depends hardly at all. These pages describe what Ottom actually reads on each platform, and where agents tend to stop.
- Can AI agents buy from a Shopify store?
A Shopify store is usually the easiest kind for an AI shopping agent to read, because every storefront publishes a machine-readable product feed at /products.json without the merchant doing anything. What stops agents on Shopify is almost never the data. It is the buy path: the theme, the apps layered on top of it, and the checkout.
- Can AI agents buy from a WooCommerce store?
WooCommerce publishes a catalogue an anonymous agent can read: the Store API at /wp-json/wc/store/v1/products is open by default and returns titles, prices, variations and stock without a key. That puts a WooCommerce store closer to Shopify than to the enterprise platforms on the data half. What varies far more is the theme and the plugins, because on WordPress both are unconstrained.
- Can AI agents buy from a BigCommerce store?
BigCommerce publishes no anonymous catalogue endpoint: its APIs need a token, so an agent arriving cold reads the storefront the way a shopper does, page by page. What it gets is therefore whatever the theme puts in the markup, which on the stock themes is usually complete and on heavily customised ones often is not.
- Can AI agents buy from a Squarespace store?
Squarespace stores are readable page by page and publish no anonymous catalogue endpoint. The templates are consistent, which helps: markup that is generated rather than hand-built tends to be complete. The usual difficulty is that Squarespace sites lean on design, and a fact shown only as part of an image is a fact an agent does not have.
- Can AI agents buy from a Wix store?
Wix stores publish no anonymous catalogue endpoint and render a great deal of the page in the browser. An agent that reads the delivered markup rather than running the site’s scripts can therefore see less of a Wix page than a person does, which makes what is in the structured data unusually important.
- Can AI agents buy from a PrestaShop store?
PrestaShop serves storefronts an agent reads page by page, with no anonymous catalogue endpoint: its web service API is key-based. Because PrestaShop is self-hosted and heavily themed, what an agent gets varies more between two PrestaShop stores than between two stores on a hosted platform.
- Can AI agents buy from a Shopware store?
A Shopware store publishes no catalogue an anonymous agent can read. Its Store API needs an access key issued per sales channel, so an AI agent arriving cold reads the storefront, one product page at a time. What it learns there depends on how those pages mark up price, availability and variants, and the default Shopware 6 theme has long done that in microdata rather than JSON-LD.
- Can AI agents buy from a WordPress site?
A WordPress site without WooCommerce has no catalogue for an agent to read, because it has no shop. Ottom recognises WordPress and says so plainly: this is a site an agent can read and not a store it can buy from. If you sell through a plugin other than WooCommerce, what an agent sees is whatever that plugin puts in the page.
- Can AI agents buy from a Magento store?
Magento, now Adobe Commerce, publishes no catalogue endpoint an anonymous agent can read. Its APIs are authenticated, so an agent sees what a shopper sees: product pages, one at a time. That makes the structured data on those pages the whole of what an agent knows about a Magento catalogue, and a missing price or availability field is not a small gap.
- Can AI agents buy from a Salesforce Commerce Cloud store?
Salesforce Commerce Cloud, still Demandware underneath, serves storefronts an agent can read page by page and publishes no anonymous catalogue endpoint. Its Shopper API exists but needs a client credential, so an AI agent arriving cold sees the storefront and nothing else. On SFCC the buy path is usually the harder half: the checkout is long, often multi-step, and frequently sits behind bot protection.
On something else? The scan does not need to know what built your store. It probes for a catalogue, falls back to reading product pages, and says which it used. Start with a free scan.
